Student Account Staff (Accounting Technician III)

Working independently under general supervision of the Director of Student Financial services, the Accounting Technician Ill will reconcile Financial Aid & Scholarship accounts and related financial data for multiple funds and is expected to create and maintain complex spreadsheets with formulas and create tables to complete this work. Incumbent will resolve errors and, when necessary, work with the Financial Aid and Scholarship Advisors to resolve discrepancies. This includes preparation of reconciliation reports for GAAP audit requirements. As the Franchise Tax Intercept Program Coordinator incumbent will review and interpret the program requirements set by the State of California Franchise Tax Board, submit participation agreements, ensure compliance with established policies, and coordinate with multiple on-campus departments to assemble and compile the outstanding debts due to the university and correctly apply payments to accounts. Incumbent will also submit updates as needed to ensure appropriate intercepts. Incumbent will also participate in testing the PeopleSoft module for this program, working with the technical team. Additionally, this position oversees the Department of Rehab (DOR) third-party accounts, working with students to ensure the department has the correct authorization to bill for tuition, Professional and Continuing Education, and parking permits. Incumbent will prepare invoices and track payments for refunds and work closely with the Financial Aid Office to ensure the student's financial aid award is correct based on third-party payments. Additionally, incumbent provides supervision to student employees including hiring, training, and scheduling of student employees.
The Accounting Technician Ill is the advanced journey-level classification in the series. Positions in this classification require a comprehensive knowledge of financial record-keeping methods, procedures, and practices. |
