It includes the production and organization of natural sound systems, word and sentence formation patterns, the linguistic organization of meaning, language history and change, language acquisition, multilingualism, dialect variation according to culture, region, ethnicity, social group, gender, and age. The course also addresses these topics as relevant both inside and outside the classroom.
