The Department of Nutrition and Food Science is searching for a Full-time, academic-year Visiting Professor in Dietetics and Acting Director of the Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) to start in August 2017.

CSU, Chico seeks an individual who is competent in their field of study, collaborative with colleagues and staff, and committed to success of a diverse student population.

Minimum Education and Experience

The minimum requirements for appointment to this position are a master’s degree in Nutrition or related field, the Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credential, and a minimum of three years professional experience post credentialing.

The successful candidate will exhibit a commitment to and/or experience promoting and fostering a learning environment that is supportive of individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Additional Requirements and Responsibilities for this position

The Department seeks an Acting Director for the undergraduate DPD. Two course release from the standard teaching load will be given in the fall semester and one course release time will be given in the spring semester to perform the duties associated with this position. Teaching assignments are based upon the qualifications of the individual and needs of the department.

The successful candidate must demonstrate the following:
• Evidence of, or potential for, effective undergraduate teaching and teaching experience using a variety of techniques.
• Commitment to and/or experience promoting and fostering a learning environment that is supportive of individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Professional Duties: performing all the duties associated with the Director of the DPD, teaching undergraduate courses in Dietetics and general education based on the expertise of the individual and needs of the Department, mentoring and advising students in the DPD program, maintaining office hours, attending Department meetings, and working collaboratively and productively with colleagues.

Recruitment Preferences

Doctoral degree in Nutrition or related field, teaching experience, mentoring experience.

We anticipate that we will search for a doctoral trained full-time tenure-track professor/DPD Director, to start in August 2018. A successful applicant to this position would be eligible to apply.

Benefits

CSU, Chico offers a number of benefits to its employees (e.g., sick leave, vacation, health insurance). Eligibility for standard CSU benefits is based on an appointment of half-time or more for a period exceeding six months. Employees appointed less than half-time or less than six months are not eligible for standard CSU benefits but do receive prorated sick leave and vacation.

Eligibility for Affordable Care Act (ACA) benefits is based on an appointment of at least three-quarter time, hired to work a minimum of 130 hours per month over the course of the appointment or works an average of 130 hours or more per month during the measurement period. The ACA guidelines provide for health coverage or FlexCash only. ACA does not provide dental or vision plan coverage.

About the University, Hiring Department and Community

The Department of Nutrition and Food Science in the College of Natural Sciences includes nine full-time faculty, about 30 graduate students, and 300 undergraduate majors and offers programs leading to a bachelor’s and master’s degree. Its’ faculty represent a wide range of interests. Department programs are enhanced by laboratories for courses and research in foods, food science, nutrition, and community nutrition. Campus support services, such as a library, distance education facilities, and technology learning and support, are easily accessible.
