The Department of Health & Community Services is searching for two tenure track Assistant Professors to start August, 2018. California State University, Chico is seeking faculty who are competent in their field, collaborative with colleagues and staff, and committed to student success. Position is contingent on funding.

Minimum Education and Experience

The minimum education requirement for appointment to this position is a Ph.D. in Health Education, Public Health or related field. Candidates nearing completion of the doctorate may be considered; however, all documents required for conferral of the doctorate must be completed prior to the beginning of the academic year (August, 2018). Candidates must demonstrate excellence in undergraduate teaching with experience and interest in interactive instructional technologies, and have potential for research and grant writing. Collegiality and the ability to collaborate within and across disciplines is highly valued. The successful candidate should also demonstrate a commitment to and/or experience promoting and fostering a learning environment that is supportive of individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Additional Requirements and Responsibilities for this position

Both tenure-track positions carry the responsibility of teaching at least three of the following undergraduate courses: Personal Health, Foundations in Health Education, Human Sexuality, Chronic & Communicable Diseases, Multicultural Health, Public Health Administration, Environmental Health, Health Education Techniques, Drugs in Our Society, Research & Evaluation in Health, Epidemiology, and/or Health Education Planning: Theory & Practice. Additional responsibilities include scholarship and service to the department, university, and community. Teaching assignments are based upon qualifications of the individual and the needs of the department.

Recruitment Preferences

CHES (Certified Health Education Specialists) certification or MCHES (Master Certified Health Education Specialist) certification. Preference will also be given to candidates who have experience creating and administrating community-based research and service projects with the assistance of students.

Benefits

CSU, Chico offers a number of benefits to its employees (e.g., sick leave, vacation, health insurance). Eligibility for standard CSU benefits is based on an appointment of half-time or more for a period exceeding six months. Employees appointed less than half-time or less than six months are not eligible for standard CSU benefits but do receive prorated sick leave and vacation.

Eligibility for Affordable Care Act (ACA) benefits is based on an appointment of at least three-quarter time, hired to work a minimum of 130 hours per month over the course of the appointment or works an average of 130 hours or more per month during the measurement period. The ACA guidelines provide for health coverage or FlexCash only. ACA does not provide dental or vision plan coverage.
