The Department of Communication Arts and Sciences at California State University, Chico announces a tenure-track position as an Assistant or Associate Professor beginning August 2016. Position contingent on funding.

Minimum Education and Experience

The minimum education requirement for appointment to this position is a doctorate in Speech-Language Pathology, Communication Sciences and Disorders, or related areas. Candidates nearing completion of the doctorate may be considered; however, all requirements for conferral of the doctorate must be complete prior to the beginning of the academic year 8/2018. Applicant must hold a Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC)-SLP and be immediately eligible for California licensure. A commitment to and/or experience promoting and fostering a learning environment that is supportive of individuals from diverse backgrounds is also required. The successful candidate should also demonstrate a commitment to and/or experience promoting and fostering a learning environment that is supportive of individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Additional Requirements and Responsibilities for this position

This tenure-track position carries responsibilities in the areas of graduate and undergraduate teaching, clinical instruction, research, student advising and mentoring, and service to the department and university. Teaching assignments are based upon qualifications of the individual and the needs of the department. The program utilizes a teacher-scholar model in which teaching is emphasized and professional growth and achievement, including research, is required.

Recruitment Preferences

Teaching emphasis in acquired communication disorders and the potential to fill program needs. Experience working with adult and medically-based populations is desired. Experience working with diverse populations and demonstrated potential for scholarship and teaching excellence expected.

CSU, Chico offers a number of benefits to its employees (e.g., sick leave, vacation, health insurance). Eligibility for standard CSU benefits is based on an appointment of half-time or more for a period exceeding six months. Employees appointed less than half-time or less than six months are not eligible for standard CSU benefits but do receive prorated sick leave and vacation.

Eligibility for Affordable Care Act (ACA) benefits is based on an appointment of at least three-quarter time, hired to work a minimum of 130 hours per month over the course of the appointment or works an average of 130 hours or more per month during the measurement period. The ACA guidelines provide for health coverage or FlexCash only. ACA does not provide dental or vision plan coverage.

About the University, Hiring Department and Community

The Communication Sciences and Disorders Program (CMSD) is in the Department of Communication Arts and Sciences, one of seven departments in the College of Communication and Education. ASHA’s Council on Academic Accreditation accredits the program. In the CMSD program there are five tenure/tenure track faculty as well as several part-time faculty for approximately 160 undergraduate and 45 graduate students. The program’s emphasis is primarily directed toward producing the finest clinicians of speech-language pathology. Job placement has been consistently 100% over the past decade.
