Position Summary

Postion Information

CSU, Chico and the College of Engineering, Computer Science & Construction Management seek candidates whose teaching, research, or service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and inclusion in higher education. We hold Hispanic Serving Institution designation.

The Construction Management Department is searching for a tenure track Assistant or Associate Professor to start January 18, 2018. California State University, Chico is seeking faculty who are competent in their field, and will be collaborative with colleagues and staff, and committed to student success. Position is contingent on funding.

Minimum Education and Experience

Minimum education requirements for appointment to this position is an MS in Construction Management and 5 years’ experience managing construction operations in the US. Applicants who possess an MBA, or hold an MS in Engineering degree with 6 years’ experience managing construction operations in the US will also be considered. The experience must be at the management level that includes project management techniques to oversee and control a project’s time, cost, and quality as well as bid-build or design-build construction contract experience for commercial and institutional building or heavy civil projects.

Additional Requirements and Responsibilities for this position

This tenure-track position carries responsibilities in the areas of undergraduate teaching, student Associated Schools of Construction competition team advising/coaching, scholarship and professional development, and service to the department, university, and community. Service includes student advising, serving on academic committees, the Industry Advisory Council, and outreach activities. Teaching assignments are based upon qualifications of the individual and the needs of the department.

Recruitment Preferences

Preference will be given to candidates with PhD, successful experience in teaching at the college level, expertise in Construction Estimating and CPM scheduling, in academic accreditation processes (particularly ACCE accreditation), active with construction professional and trade associations, experience in the commercial & institutional building industry, experience in the Heavy/Civil construction industry, management experience as multiple projects manager, or higher levels of construction company management such as VP.

CSU, Chico offers a number of benefits to its employees (e.g., sick leave, vacation, health insurance). Eligibility for standard CSU benefits is based on an appointment of half-time or more for a period exceeding six months. Employees appointed less than half-time or less than six months are not eligible for standard CSU benefits but do receive prorated sick leave and vacation.

Eligibility for Affordable Care Act (ACA) benefits is based on an appointment of at least three-quarter time, hired to work a minimum of 130 hours per month over the course of the appointment or works an average of 130 hours or more per month during the measurement period. The ACA guidelines provide for health coverage or FlexCash only. ACA does not provide dental or vision plan coverage.

The CM Department offers an American Council for Construction Education accredited B. S. Construction Management degree program. Fall semester 2017 began with 450 CM Majors and an entry-level course enrolling 115 students. The University “Quick Facts” lists the CM Major as #7 of the “10 Largest Majors” on campus. CM Graduate placement statistics remain steady, averaging just over 2 job offers per graduate, with normally over 95% placement before the end of the graduating semester. Placement by type of construction company varies slightly within these ranges: Building Construction (Commercial & Institutional) 45%; Hwy/Hvy Civil 35%; Specialty (Electrical, Mechanical, and other) 15-20%. The CM Dept. has an active chapter of the Sigma Lambda Chi Honor Society, and award-winning Student Chapters of National Associations including Associated General Contractors, Design Build Institute of America, and Mechanical Contractors Association of America.
