Full time, academic year, tenure-track faculty positions at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in the School of Nursing, beginning August 2018. California State University, Chico is seeking faculty who are competent in their field, collaborative with colleagues and staff, and committed to student success. Position is contingent on funding.

Minimum Education and Experience

The minimum education requirement for appointment to this position is a Master’s degree in nursing. All requirements for conferral of the degree must be complete no later than August 1, 2018. Specialization in the area of medical-surgical nursing, maternal-child nursing, mental health nursing or public health nursing; at least one year’s clinical experience in direct patient care in the specialty area within the last five years; a course which includes practice in teaching nursing or one year’s experience teaching nursing. In addition, applicants must be eligible for RN licensure in California and meet health policies and other requirements imposed by clinical agencies. Public Health Nursing applicants must also be eligible for a California Public Health Nursing certificate. Candidates must also pass a 10-panel drug test and background check as a condition of employment. Potential for significant achievement in areas of teaching, professional achievement and service required.

Additional Requirements and Responsibilities for this position

This tenure-track position carries responsibilities in the areas of teaching, which include providing theory and clinical instruction for BSN, RN-BSN, and MSN students; new faculty teach a reduced teaching load for the first two years; scholarship – Candidate must demonstrate potential for significant achievement in professional growth and achievement ; and service – Candidate must demonstrate potential for significant achievement in service to the program, university and community. In addition, faculty are expected to participate in school governance, committee functions and student advising as needed. Teaching assignments are based upon qualifications of the individual and the needs of the department.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before a final offer of employment with the CSU can be extended to a candidate. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants

The person holding this position is considered either a “general mandated reporter” or a “limited mandated reporter” under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (updated July 2017) and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

CSU, Chico offers a number of benefits to its employees (e.g., sick leave, vacation, health insurance). Eligibility for standard CSU benefits is based on an appointment of half-time or more for a period exceeding six months. Employees appointed less than half-time or less than six months are not eligible for standard CSU benefits but do receive prorated sick leave and vacation.

Eligibility for Affordable Care Act (ACA) benefits is based on an appointment of at least three-quarter time, hired to work a minimum of 130 hours per month over the course of the appointment or works an average of 130 hours or more per month during the measurement period. The ACA guidelines provide for health coverage or FlexCash only. ACA does not provide dental or vision plan coverage.
