California State Polytechnic University, Pomona invites applications for a tenure track faculty position in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.  Cal Poly Pomona is one of three polytechnic universities in the 23-campus California State University system and among 12 such institutions nationwide.  Student Population. Cal Poly Pomona is the number one polytechnic university in the nation for student diversity and economic mobility. College of Engineering:  The College of Engineering’s mission is to prepare students for industry and advanced studies by implementing an inclusive polytechnic philosophy through collaborative teamwork, innovation, entrepreneurship and professional integrity. The College offers 12 ABET-accredited undergraduate degrees and 7 Master’s degrees to over 6,500 students across seven academic departments that include: Aerospace Engineering, Chemical and Materials Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. The College is nationally recognized by U.S. News & World Report and currently ranks 5th among undergraduate engineering programs in non-doctorate-granting public institutions. Additionally, it houses more than 40 student clubs that offer hands-on learning opportunities and have been recognized at several national competitions. Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering: The department offers B.S and M.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering and a B.S. in Computer Engineering serving a diverse student body of approximately 1500 students.  The graduate and undergraduate curricula include a large number of laboratories where students experience the practical application of concepts learned in the classroom. Additionally, a capstone design project including both design and implementation is required of all undergraduates. The Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering B.S. degrees are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET.

Position description: The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department in the College of Engineering at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona invites applications for a position in Electrical Engineering at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin Fall 2025. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and the potential to establish a research program that involves both undergraduate and graduate students. Teaching responsibilities will include both introductory and advanced courses, as well as assisting in curriculum development. The applicant will be expected to advise students; serve on department, college, and university committees; and engage in professional activities. Applicants whose work supports the university’s Learn by Doing philosophy and demonstrates a commitment to both the highest standards of professional ethics and to inclusion and equity in higher education are particularly encouraged to apply.

Minimum requirements include

  • The applicant must have a Ph.D. in Electrical or Computer Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited university by the date of appointment. (Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.)
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusivity and equity. Evidence should be provided in a Student Success Statement that responds to the prompt above - “Inclusive Excellence and Student Success”
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the IEEE code of ethics.

Preferred/Desired Qualifications: 

  • Ability to teach a broad range of courses in the area of Electrical Engineering.
  • Demonstrated potential for developing innovative lecture and laboratory curricula.
  • Teaching experience in Electrical or Computer Engineering at an accredited university or college program with demonstrated ability to provide hands-on education. 
  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting the academic mission through university service work.
  • Demonstrated commitment to an active research agenda.
  • Relevant professional engineering work experience.  This could include industrial experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop an applied research program, including experience with contracts and grants for applied research projects, preferably as a PI or co-PI.
  • Demonstrated potential to establish industrial collaborations.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Preference will be given to candidates in Electronics, Signals and Systems, Communications and Power.

  6. A list of specific Cal Poly Pomona courses that you can teach with minimal preparation and a list of courses that you can teach with some additional preparation. Filter them for the prefix ECE to list Electrical and Computer Engineering courses.
  7. An unofficial transcript showing the highest degree earned or in progress (an official transcript will be required of finalists).

Final candidates being interviewed are expected to make a presentation of research and an additional teaching demonstration to faculty. 

Salary range for academic year, nine-month appointment: $106,000-110,200.
