Job Summary

The Financial Aid System Analyst is responsible for working collaboratively with the Associate Director/Systems and Financial Aid Module Lead in assisting to improve the quality of financial aid services. This position is responsible for the configuration, set-up, testing, analysis, and implementation of technological solutions to support operations.  This position involves the analysis of business processes and workflow to determine areas of improvement in the processes and system functionality.  In addition, this position will ensure compliance with aid program regulations, conduct research and document solutions. This position supports the Financial Aid in daily, weekly, and annual system maintenance covering the delivered financial aid, Baseline, CSULB Custom module.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in maintaining and enhancing functionality of the financial aid module. Including production support as needed to ensure the continued efficient operation of automated systems. This may include set up activities, security administration coordination, and quality assurance monitoring and working reports.
  • Provide maintenance support and testing of regular system updates (fixes, annual maintenance, and updates). Troubleshoots system issues. Evaluate the impact of the changes on the office’s business processes. 
  • Analysis of new software systems and technologies, as well as current and new business processes to improve performance, data quality, and ensure operational efficiency.
  • Monitor the Financial Aid department's automated and manual control functions.
  • Development of online, user-friendly financial aid training modules to help end users with functional business policies, processes, and procedures.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Knowledge understanding of financial aid needs analysis methodology and federal and state financial aid program guidelines. Knowledge of and ability to use: Ms Word, MS PowerPoint, Visio, MS Excel. Excellent analytical and communication skills both verbal and written. Knowledge of financial aid regulations, practices, and resources. Knowledge of Online student information systems. Ability to interpret and analyze complex financial aid & academic regulations and policies & procedures. Working knowledge of aid program delivery platforms (National Student Loan Data System, Common Originations and Disbursement, CSAC Web Grants, FAA Access to CPS Online, National Student Clearinghouse).

Demonstrated ability to organize and plan multiple priorities and to carry out assignments without detailed instructions. Demonstrated ability to analyze and evaluate situations and data, make accurate recommendations on appropriate course of action leading to the development and improvement of administrative systems, procedures, and/or practices. Demonstrated ability to trouble-shoot and resolve student system related problems. Ability to handle multiple tasks with short deadlines. Ability to demonstrate excellent time management and organizational skills. Ability to work effectively in a dynamic team and to multi-tasks in a fast-paced, diverse environment with students, faculty, and staff.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.  Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures.  Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

Education and Experience

Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field and two years of related experience required.

Physical Summary

  • Sedentary work - Involves mainly sitting. Walking and standing are minimal. Lifting is limited to lightweight objects. (10 pounds or less).

Compensation

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

Hiring Range: The hiring range for this position is $5,833 - $7,000 per month commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.

CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $3,879 - $7,488 per month.

Time Base

1.0 time-base, 40 hours per week.

Duration of Appointment

This is a temporary position for 1 year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
