Job Summary 

This position will ensure the safe and responsible operation of the School of Art Fiber labs, studios, and classrooms, to facilitate instruction and instructionally related activity, and the research, creative, and scholarly activity of undergraduate students, graduate students, and faculty.

Key Responsibilities

  • Repair and maintain a variety of specialized Fiber Area equipment ensuring that all said equipment is safe, accessible and operational for use by students and faculty.
  • Facilitate safe and effective operation of facilities and equipment. Maintain Fiber Area classrooms and labs, and all program equipment, including ordering, fabricating and installing replacement parts.
  • Purchase and manage inventory, storage, and disposal of raw materials, tools and supplies. In conjunction with SoA technicians, FM personnel, COTA Facilities coordinator, and COTA Safety Officer, responsible for proper storage, distribution, and disposal of hazardous materials and equipment, including proper Global Harmonized System (GHS) labeling and other required labeling.
  • Supervision of students in labs for safety. Under advisement of Fiber Area faculty, supervise students in proper use and care of equipment, lab safety, and cleanup

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Experience repairing sewing, knitting and other related machines. Knowledge of administration and budgeting skills. Ability to take directions and work independently. Basic computer skills for inventory and record keeping.  Sewing machines, knitting machines and other related machines. Knowledge of Screen-Printing equipment, Paper Making equipment, and Rug Tufting guns. Knowledge of Manual and Digital Looms.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.  Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures.  Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

Education and Experience

• Equivalent to three years of experience providing instructional support services for visual arts or related discipline, or repairing equipment related to the visual arts or related discipline required

• Bachelor’s degree in art strongly preferred

• MFA in Art preferred

• Supervisory Experience preferred

• Experience in working with contractors and trades including electricians, plumbers, carpenters, maintenance staff, etc. preferred

• Experience with physical inventories and property tracking preferred

Physical Summary

Medium work - Job involves lifting heavy-weight objects (20-40 pounds) and/or 20% - 40% of the job involves standing, squatting, kneeling, or walking. May require pushing or pulling objects within the weight limits.

Compensation

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

Hiring Range: The hiring range for this position is $1,152 - $1,368 per month commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.

CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $1,152 - $1,999 per month.

Time Base

.25 time-base, part-time 10 hours per week.

Duration of Appointment

This is a temporary position for one year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
