Job Summary

Under the guidance, direction, and general supervision of the Director, Basic Needs and under the guidance of the CARES Lead Case Manager, this position will provide case management and care coordination to students with challenges that are negatively impacting their educational pursuits.

The incumbent will provide a diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessible approach to the care offered to the campus community.  This position will also utilize a student-centered and equity-minded approach in all communication and service efforts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Case Management - Provide case management and linkage to matriculated students referred to the CARES program by faculty, staff, students, or other campus partners. Manage a caseload of referred students, providing coaching, support, and advocacy as needed.
  • Care Coordination and Campus Collaboration - Provide on-going coordination of care for CARES students to ensure students have been linked to needed resources and resources and refer students to agencies, on and off campus partners, and services when appropriate. Collaborate regularly with campus partners regarding complex student needs impacting their educational experience and support team members and campus partners in their efforts to provide care to students experiencing challenges.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Extensive experience conducting psychosocial assessments, developing safety and action plans, and evaluating risk and protective factors to support client well-being. Skilled in crisis intervention, emergency response, and assisting individuals with disabilities during evacuations. Adept at working with diverse populations across cultural, socio-economic, and educational backgrounds. Strong knowledge of FERPA, HIPAA, EMR systems, and workplace safety protocols.

Excellent communicator with proven ability to engage students, faculty, staff, and parents. Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing complex information and coordinating events, including physical logistics. Demonstrates sound judgment, discretion, and initiative in both independent and collaborative settings. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, maintains confidentiality under pressure, and is flexible with scheduling, including weekends.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.  Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures.  Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

Education and Experience

• A bachelor's degree with upper or graduate coursework in counseling and guidance, human relations, or related fields and four years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas required.

• Master’s degree in counseling, Social Work, MFT, or related field (preferred).

• Minimum of two years of experience providing services to vulnerable populations (preferred).

Physical Summary

  • Medium work - Job involves lifting heavy-weight objects (20-40 pounds) and/or 20% - 40% of the job involves standing, squatting, kneeling, or walking. May require pushing or pulling objects within the weight limits.

Compensation

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

Hiring Range: The hiring range for this position is $6,320 - $9,014 per month commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.

CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $6,320 - $7,113 per month.

1.0  time-base, 40 hours per week.

Duration of Appointment

Additional Information

The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 Revised July 21, 2017 as a condition of employment.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment.
