Position Description

Position Summary

San Diego State University is seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative Budget Coordinator to join the School of Exercise and Nutritional Sciences (ENS), one of the university’s largest and most dynamic academic units. In this essential role, you will support the financial and operational functions of the school, working directly with faculty, staff, and campus partners to coordinate budgets, process transactions, and manage administrative workflows.

Reporting to the School Director and working closely with the College of Health and Human Services Dean’s Office, the Budget Coordinator plays a key role in tracking and reconciling SDSU and Foundation funds, handling procurement and travel processes, and supporting faculty recruitment and onboarding, including startup fund management and coordination of equipment needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Track and reconcile multiple budgets across state and foundation accounts
  • Process procurement transactions, reimbursements, and vendor payments via Oracle, Emburse, and P-Card systems
  • Submit budget transfers and maintain accurate financial documentation
  • Support onboarding and recruitment logistics for new faculty, including travel, startup budgeting, and equipment purchases
  • Coordinate logistics and operations for ENS events, meetings, and internal communications
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for faculty, staff, and students on administrative and financial matters
  • Collaborate with IT staff on technology purchases and contracts
  • Maintain facilities-related records and coordinate space use, scheduling, and work order submissions

Position Information

  • This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position.
  • This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation.
  • Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs. (Position requires the ability to travel and work outside of standard business hours, including evenings and weekends, on and off campus).
  • The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.

The School of Exercise and Nutritional Sciences (ENS) is part of the College of Health and Human Services and offers B.S. and M.S. degrees in Kinesiology, Foods and Nutrition, Exercise Physiology, and Athletic Training. With strong partnerships across clinical, research, and community organizations, ENS emphasizes hands-on learning, workforce readiness, and high-impact scholarship.

Education and Experience

Entry to this classification requires a fully functional knowledge of and skill in standard office procedures and practices, as well as an ability to understand and operate in a variety of organizational structures. Additionally, incumbents are expected to have a thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation and be able to clearly communicate orally and in writing. Some positions may require a knowledge of business mathematics beyond basic arithmetic. The ability to use and quickly learn new office support technology systems and software packages is also a prerequisite.

These qualifications would normally be obtained through a high school program, technical/vocational program, or their equivalents combined with several years of related office work experience.

Key Qualifications

  • Knowledge of general office and budget procedures
  • Familiarity with procurement and financial systems
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new systems quickly
  • Experience using Oracle, Peoplesoft, Emburse is preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, maintain confidentiality, and respond to shifting needs with professionalism
  • Experience supporting academic units in higher education is preferred

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $4,058 per month. 

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,058 - $6,653 per month.
