Job Summary

The purpose of this position is to provide excellent customer service to university students entailing the maintenance of student and sponsor's accounts which includes the review, processing, and billing of charges to the account, the processing of refunds, the collection of balances owed, and the application of payments collected. Ensuring the financial integrity of student accounts as well as the sponsor's accounts through the performance of the necessary reconciliations and analyses. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the integrity of student account financial data - Prepare the necessary account reconciliations and various individual delinquent accounts analyses which may require a frequent review of the accounting feed, and other diagnostics (from the Billing/Receivable System to the Financial Accounting System). Prepare the necessary reports such as the Accounts Receivable Aging Report, including monthly analysis and commentary, and other reports related to administering account receivable management policies in the INTEGRATED CSU ADMINISTRATIVE MANUAL "ICSUAM".
  • Maintenance of Student and 3rd Party Accounts Receivable - Review charges to student accounts to ensure their validity prior to billing the student. Determine the proper application of payments received from students. Review refunds to be issued to students to ensure that refunds are made in accordance with the applicable State and University rules and policies.
  • Provide customer service to students - Student advising and counseling regarding rights and responsibilities and program specifics. Verifying student's eligibility to participate in the programs. Setting up Installment Plan contracts.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong foundation in accounting theory and practices, with a particular emphasis on Accounts Receivable in a highly automated environment supporting large enterprises. They will possess excellent customer service skills, enabling them to clearly interpret and communicate complex rules and policies to a diverse audience, including individuals unfamiliar with technical or administrative procedures. Their interpersonal strengths will support effective collaboration in ethnically and culturally diverse settings, fostering teamwork and mutual respect. Proficiency in personal computer applications such as word processing and spreadsheet software is essential, along with strong organizational and follow-up skills to ensure timely and accurate completion of assignments.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.  Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures.  Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

Education and Experience

• Equivalent to four years of progressively responsible financial record-keeping experience required.

• 4-year college degree preferred with a major in Accounting/Finance or equivalent.

Physical Summary

  • Sedentary work - Involves mainly sitting. Walking and standing are minimal. Lifting is limited to lightweight objects. (10 pounds or less).

Compensation

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

Hiring Range: The hiring range for this position is $4,166 - $4,341 per month commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.

CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $4,166 - $7,312 per month.

Time Base

1.0 time-base, 40 hours per week.
