Compensation and Benefits
Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $6,705 - $7,403 per month (Internal employees may be placed at a salary higher than the anticipated range as required by the collective bargaining agreement.)
Full CSU Classification Salary Range: $6,705 - $9,768 per month
- This is a full-time (equivalent to 40 hours per week), probationary, non-exempt position.
- This position is limited to internal, on-campus, stateside employees.
The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 15 paid holidays a year. Job Summary
Under general supervision of the Assistant Director of Facilities Operations, the Supervising Painter is primarily responsible for supervising the Paint Shop consisting of skilled journey-level painters.
Key Qualifications
- Knowledge:
- Work requires thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the painting trade including painting, finishing, mud, and drywall.
- A thorough knowledge of the applicable state codes and regulations, including the Safety Orders of the Division of Industrial Safety of the State of California.
- Must possess a thorough knowledge of effective lead practices and techniques and a working knowledge of job design and work sequencing related to construction projects.
- Abilities:
- Must be able to apply paints and finishes neatly and accurately.
- Mix paints and finishes and match colors.
- Erect and work from scaffolds, rigging and ladders.
- Select the most appropriate materials.
- Read, interpret and work from blueprints, plans, drawings, and specifications.
- Make rough sketches.
- Estimate cost, time and materials of painting work.
- Maintain records and retrieve data using manual and/or computerized record-keeping systems.
- Prepare standard reports.
- Analyze and respond appropriately to emergency situations.
- Read and write at a level appropriate to the position.
- Perform arithmetic calculations as required by the position.
- Must be able to lead, plan and direct the work of skilled crafts workers and their semi-skilled assistants.
- Determine and coordinate staffing, material and equipment needs for multiple jobs and projects.
- Ensure accuracy and maintenance of assigned record-keeping systems.
- Ability to plan, schedule, and implement a preventative maintenance program on exterior and interior finishes on a living campus.

Education and Experience
- These abilities normally would be acquired through any combination of progressively responsible training and experience which demonstrates achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through completion of a standard painter's apprenticeship program and,
- Minimum two years’ experience as a journey-level painter, including one to two years in a lead/supervisory capacity.
- Preferred Skills:
- Ability to maintain, input, and utilize a CMMS (Computer Maintenance Management System) to manage electronic work orders, provide estimates to a diverse clientele, and assign work to painters.
- EPA lead renovator initial certification
