Compensation and Benefits

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $3,934 - $4,131 per month

Full CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,934 - $6,418 per month

  • This is a full-time (equivalent to 40 hours per week), temporary, non-exempt position.
  • Area of consideration is limited to on-campus, state funded employees only.

Note: Job offer will be contingent upon the successful completion of an oral interview, medical (including drug screening) examination, psychological examination, background investigation, and fingerprinting.

Note: Appointments to this classification are temporary in nature and typically do not exceed 7 months.  

The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 15 paid holidays a year. Job Summary

The Cadet is a non-sworn officer in a trainee capacity. Incumbents attend a P.O.S.T. (Peace Officer Standards and Training) certified police academy to develop the minimum qualifications necessary to assume a position as a sworn police officer. Upon successful completion of the required P.O.S.T. training within the required timeframe and the discretion of management, the Police Officer Cadet may be appointed to the classification of Police Officer (Class Code 8350) on a probationary basis.

 

Key Qualifications

  • Valid California driver's license at the time of appointment.
  • Mental capacity, physical agility and learning potential to perform all aspects of P.O.S.T. academy training.
  • Ability to:
    • Qualify for and satisfactorily meet the ongoing standards of the basic P.O.S.T. academy training.
    • Write clear and comprehensive reports.
    • Work independently and make sound judgments.
    • Work rotating shifts, overtime, flexible schedules including nights, weekends and holidays.
  • A history of regular attendance and positive performance evaluations.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent and eligibility to attend a certified P.O.S.T. basic training academy.
    • Preferred Education:
      • Bachelor's Degree in Criminology or equivalent.

Following a conditional offer of employment, a background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate may start work with California State University, Fresno. The person holding this position is considered a "mandated reporter" under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

This position may be a "designated position" under the California State University's Conflict of Interest Code. This will require the filing of a Statement of Economic Interest on an annual basis and the completion of training within six (6) months of assuming office and every two (2) years thereafter.
