
Job Summary:
The New Student Orientation and Family Programs Office supports the successful transition of newly admitted students and their families to CSUSB by providing inclusive, informative orientation programs and services. The office promotes academic success, campus resource awareness, student engagement, and a sense of belonging. In addition, the office recruits and trains Student Orientation Leaders who serve as peer ambassadors and support orientation programming. Through these high-impact transitional experiences, the office helps students and families build confidence and establish a strong foundation for success at CSUSB
Under the overall leadership of the Director of New Student Orientation and Family Programs, and with day-to-day guidance and coordination provided by the Parent and Family Program Coordinator, Student Assistants will support the operations of the New Student Orientation and Family Programs Office. Student Assistants will carry out assigned responsibilities, assist with front desk operations, and complete routine tasks essential to the effective delivery of office services and programs.
Responsibilities:
Under the overall leadership of the Director of New Student Orientation and Family Programs, and with day-to-day guidance and coordination provided by the Parent and Family Program Coordinator, duties include but not limited to:
• Greet and assist office visitors in a friendly and professional manner.
• Answer office phones, respond to voicemails, and route calls appropriately
• Monitor and respond to departmental emails using standard communication practices.
• Provide accurate information about orientation, campus resources, and family programming.
• Support orientation program logistics, including document preparation, check-in support, and group coordination.
• Perform general clerical duties such as filing, copying, and data entry.
• Operate the orientation registration system to assist students and families with account setup, payments, and scheduling.
• Handle confidential student and family information in accordance with FERPA and university data privacy policies.
• Maintain the appearance and organization of the front desk and reception area.
• Collaborate with professional staff and other student assistants to ensure office needs are met.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ability to learn and perform assigned work; follow oral instructions; work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students; communicate effectively with all levels; and read and write English at a level appropriate to the position.
- Special Qualification: Admission or registration as a CSU student.
Required Qualifications:
- Maintain a 2.0 G.P.A. or greater per semester and cumulative.
- Students must be enrolled in at least halftime units at CSUSB (6 units undergraduate; 3 units graduate)
- International students must have full-time enrollment at CSUSB. (12 units undergraduate; 6 units graduate)
- Eligible to work in the United States
- Payroll Requirement: Social Security Card
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience with customer service preferred.
- Spanish speaking highly desirable.
- Ability to learn and perform assigned work.
- Follow oral instructions; work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students; communicate effectively with all levels; and read and write English at a level appropriate to the position.
- Complete all required paperwork, background check, and employment training.
- Special Qualifications: Admission or registration as a CSUSB student.
- As a Student Assistant, the student need not be registered as a student but must have been enrolled as a CSUSB student in the previous term and is registered for the following term.
Compensation and Benefits:
Student Employment Anticipated Hiring Range: $16.90 per hour.
The compensation offered will consider internal equity and experience among other factors.
Position Information:
Work status: Part-Time, Temporary, Seasonal
Academic year available hours: Monday through Friday (8:00 am – 5:00 pm).
Summer available hours: Monday through Thursday (7:00 am - 5:30 pm).

Background Check
Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) may be required for student employment purposes. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check when required may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
Driver’s License Check
Possession of a valid Driver's License may be required. Employees in this position will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice Program which confirms possession of a valid driver's license and reflects driving record.
