Salary:

Lecturer A/2 Full-Time Equivalent Salary Range: $5,507 – $6,677 per month

Lecturer B/3 Full-Time Equivalent Salary Range: $6,221 – $13,224 per month

Lecturer C/4 Full-Time Equivalent Salary Range: $6,825 – $14,523 per month

Lecturer D/5 Full-Time Equivalent Salary Range: $8,593 – $15,211 per month

Anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. See the Faculty Salaries At-a-Glance guide for more information.

Position Summary:

The Department of Music, Theatre and Dance is collecting application materials for a one-year (2026-2027) full-time academic year temporary faculty teaching opportunity (with the possibility of appointment in subsequent years) beginning August 19, 2026 in the area of Studio Voice Instruction and Theatre/Music Instruction. The ideal candidate would teach studio instruction in voice and classes in general education, majors class in general theatre or music, and/or specialized majors classes in musical theatre. We are especially interested in candidates committed to supporting the success of diverse student groups, including first-generation and underrepresented students.

Minimum Qualifications: The minimum education requirement for appointment to this position is a Master of Arts in Theatre, Master of Fine Arts in Theatre, or a Master of Music. The successful candidate should have demonstrated ability to teach studio voice instruction in the area of musical theatre. The successful candidate should provide evidence of their commitment to or experience promoting and fostering a learning environment that is supportive of individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications: Previous teaching experience at the university level is preferred. Keyboard skills and the ability to accompany students in various musical theatre styles are preferred. Ability to teach in areas beyond studio instruction is preferred.

Responsibilities: This lecturer position carries responsibilities in the areas of studio voice instruction, primarily focused on music theatre styles and repertoire, as well as additional teaching assignments based on the candidate’s strengths, background, and the needs of the department. The candidate should mentor students in the development of healthy, sustainable vocal technique, musicianship, stylistic versatility, and expressive performance practices appropriate to contemporary and traditional musical theatre. Instruction may include individual and group voice lessons, studio classes, and related coursework supporting vocal performance and musical preparation.

Faculty collaborate with colleagues to support student learning across classroom instruction, productions, and other departmental and school collaborations. Other responsibilities may include advising, recruiting, curriculum development, professional affiliations as appropriate, and other duties as assigned. This is a full-time position with a teaching load of 15 weighted teaching units per semester. Course assignments typically include general education and/or majors classes within the candidate’s teaching ability and may include Studio Voice Instruction, Contemporary Styles for Musical Theatre, Studio Voice Instruction, Acting for Musical Theatre, Contemporary Styles in Musical Theatre, Cabaret and Showcase, Fundamentals of Music for Musical Theatre, Music Theory, Aural Musicianship, music direction or direction of department productions, Directing, Directing II, Text Analysis, Introduction to Acting, Foundations of Drama, Foundations of Acting, Theatre History, or other courses aligned with the candidate’s expertise and departmental needs. Teaching assignments are based upon the qualifications of the individual and the needs of the department.

The Department of Music, Theatre and Dance offers a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music with options in Music Education and Applied Music, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Industry and Technology with options in Music Industry and Recording Arts, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre Arts, a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre as well as minors in music, theatre, and dance.
