Major Duties

Under the general guidance and supervision of the Associate Athletic Director for Health & Wellness, Director of Athletics, and Team Physicians, the Associate Athletic Trainer supports comprehensive sports medicine services through injury care, medical coordination, recordkeeping, and daily clinic operations while contributing to athlete wellbeing and performance outcomes across intercollegiate programs.

  • Assist in all aspects of prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries for approximately 370 student-athletes.
  • Maintain updated files and accurate medical records of the following: athletic injuries, medical insurance, medical history, injury referrals, conditioning programs, schedules, and other necessary data.
  • Coordinate clinical and physician appointments between the athlete and SHC or outside referral.
  • Assist with ordering supplies and equipment; Assist with determining what medical supplies and equipment to purchase to ensure the Sports Medicine Clinics are operationally functional and well-equipped to treat injured student-athletes.
  • Provide clinical instruction to Kinesiology Athletic Education Program students.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in athletic training, physical education, kinesiology, or related field of study or combination of education and experience, which provides the required knowledge and abilities. Master’s degree in Athletic Training or related field, preferred.  
  • Minimum 2 years of experience (as a certified athletic trainer) in a high school or Intercollegiate Athletics, Division I. Athletic training experience with both women’s and men’s teams is preferred.  Classroom or clinical teaching experience in an accredited undergraduate curriculum preferred.
  • Possession of a CPR/AED and Board of Certification (BOC) certification for Athletic Trainer is required.
  • Possession of a valid California Driver’s License is required.

 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Advanced knowledge of athletic injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation techniques, with the ability to make sound clinical judgments and develop effective, individualized recovery programs that support safe return-to-play outcomes.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with sports medicine staff, coaches, and student-athletes, and delivering quality care in both practice and competitive environments, including travel coverage.
  • Knowledge of medical documentation standards and electronic health record systems, with the ability to maintain accurate, confidential records and efficiently track athlete health information, insurance details, and care plans in compliance with regulatory and organizational requirements.
  • Strong coordination and administrative skills, including the ability to schedule medical appointments, communicate injury status and treatment plans across multidisciplinary teams, and effectively manage inventory, supplies, and equipment to ensure clinic readiness and continuity of care.

 

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

  • Classification: 8185 / Associate Athletic Trainer / 1
  • The anticipated HIRING RANGE is $ 5200 – $ 5419 per month, dependent on qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $ 4908 - $ 7150 per month.
  • HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday. May include evenings and weekends.  
  • This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period. 
  • The individual hired for this role will physically work on-campus in Northridge. This is not a telecommute position.
