Major Duties

Under the general supervision of the Associate Director of Housing Facilities Operations and the Lead of Facilities Project Supervision, the Electrician handles electrical repairs, life safety testing, equipment servicing, troubleshooting wiring, supporting renovation layouts, inventory tasks, and emergency response while working with multiple trades and maintaining lighting and infrastructure across housing facilities to ensure reliable operations and resident safety at times.

  • Performs necessary electrical repairs to malfunctions and situations as assigned via work tickets in Student Housing, this includes installations, replacements, tests, and connections of switchers, outlets, and wiring, measuring, fabricating, and install conduct, drill holes and anchor conduit, maintenance, modification, and performs repair of electrical systems, install, inspect, isolate and repair electrical malfunctions.
  • Test fire and reset Life Safety Equipment, including test and reset fire alarm systems.
  • Conducts daily inspections of exterior lighting and performs preventive maintenance on older switchgear boxes
  • Repairs to electric-powered equipment, including works with, uses, and repairs lighting fixtures with magnetic and electronic ballasts, LED, fluorescent, HID, HPS, and metal halide lamps, as well as their transformers
  • Troubleshoots neutrals and circuits in existing wiring within older buildings and underground wiring for exterior site lighting
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Progressively responsible training and experience which demonstrates achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to those acquired through completion of a standard electrician's apprenticeship program.

 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of electrical systems, components, and safety protocols, with the ability to install, test, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair wiring, outlets, conduit, and related infrastructure. Skilled in interpreting work tickets and executing precise, code-compliant electrical work across residential facilities.
  • Ability to conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance on exterior lighting and aging electrical infrastructure, including switchgear. Knowledge of life safety systems with the capability to test, reset, and ensure proper functionality of fire alarm and related safety equipment while maintaining compliance with safety standards.
  • Knowledge of electric-powered equipment and diverse lighting systems, including LED, fluorescent, HID, HPS, and metal halide fixtures and their components. Ability to diagnose and repair electrical elements within appliances and systems such as air conditioning units, stoves, refrigeration, and boilers.
  • Skill in diagnosing complex electrical issues, including neutrals and circuit faults in older and underground wiring systems. Ability to work effectively with multiple trades and technical teams to complete integrated projects, ensuring compatibility, safety, and efficient resolution of system issues.

 

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

  • Classification: 6533 / Electrician / 1
  • The anticipated HIRING RANGE is $ 5998 – $ 6754 per month, dependent on qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $ 5998 - $ 8737 per month.
  • HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday. May include evenings and weekends.  
  • This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period. 
  • The individual hired for this role will physically work on-campus in Northridge. This is not a telecommute position.
