Department Information: Housed in the Department of English at California State University, Bakersfield, the English Program offers a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and English Teaching, as well as a Master of Arts in English. The goal of the program is to develop the skills, craft, knowledge, and imagination of its students within a liberal arts context. Position Description: The Department of English at California State University Bakersfield accepts applications on an ongoing basis for our pool of part-time lecturers.
Applicant pools are used to fill short-term temporary Lecturer positions across our campus with the possibility of rehiring. Appointments may last from one day to a whole semester. This applicant pool may be used to fill vacant positions on an as-needed basis throughout the academic year. Applications in this pool ad will only be good for the current academic year. This pool will be closed effective May 31st. If you wish to be considered for the next academic year, you will need to apply to the new pool as it becomes available by June 15th.
Minimum Qualifications:
- MA in English or a closely related field from an accredited university.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Training and successful experiences in teaching writing at all levels from basic to advanced; preference given to candidates with experience in working with diverse populations and a commitment to fostering a collaborative, supportive, and inclusive environment.
Rank and Salary: Lecturer and salary is dependent upon educational preparation and experience. Position’s appointment is subject to budgetary authorization.
The salary schedule information for the Lecturer - Academic Year Classification is available based on the following ranges:
Lecturer AY (Range 2) - $5,507 - $6,677
Lecturer AY (Range 3) - $6,221 - $13,224
Lecturer AY (Range 4) - $6,825 - $14,523
Lecturer AY (Range 5) - $8,593 - $15,211
The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience. Salary will be pro-rated for part-time assignments.

Background Check: A background check (including a criminal records check) must be satisfactorily completed.
