Multicultural and Gender Studies (MCGS) is searching for a probationary tenure-track assistant professor to start August 2018. California State University, Chico is seeking faculty who are competent in their field, excellent teachers, collaborative with colleagues and staff, and committed to student success. Position is contingent on funding.

Minimum Education and Experience

The minimum education requirement for appointment to this position is a Ph.D. (or Ed.D. with a research background) in Queer/Trans and Latinx; or related areas such as: U.S. Ethnic, Latinx, Chicanx, Gender, Queer, Trans, and/or LGBTQ Studies. Candidates nearing completion of the doctorate may be considered; however, all requirements for conferral of the doctorate must be completed prior to the beginning of the academic year (August, 2018).

Additionally, candidates must document (1) a strong focus in Queer/Trans Latinx; (2) proven excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level; (3) demonstrated oral and written communication skills; (4) superior human relations skills; AND (5) potential for, and commitment to, professional activities and growth. The successful candidate should also demonstrate a commitment to and/or experience promoting and fostering a learning environment that is supportive of individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Additional Requirements and Responsibilities for this position

Expectations include: pursuing research and/or creative activities; teaching a variety of courses in Multicultural & Gender Studies (including GE); and service within and outside of MCGS (e.g. outreach, recruitment, retention, and helping foster the success of students; advising; curricular development; and honors thesis direction, etc.). The successful candidate will work with other colleagues to accomplish our MCGS Strategic Plan and build a new major in intersectional Latinx Studies. Teaching assignments are based upon qualifications of the individual and the needs of the department.

Recruitment Preferences

Bilingual with preference in Spanish; prior experience in intersectional and interdisciplinary teaching, curriculum development, program development, and/or student outreach and retention.

Benefits

CSU, Chico offers a number of benefits to its employees (e.g., sick leave, vacation, health insurance). Eligibility for standard CSU benefits is based on an appointment of half-time or more for a period exceeding six months. Employees appointed less than half-time or less than six months are not eligible for standard CSU benefits but do receive prorated sick leave and vacation.

Eligibility for Affordable Care Act (ACA) benefits is based on an appointment of at least three-quarter time, hired to work a minimum of 130 hours per month over the course of the appointment or works an average of 130 hours or more per month during the measurement period. The ACA guidelines provide for health coverage or FlexCash only. ACA does not provide dental or vision plan coverage.
