Job/Department Summary:

Working independently, under general supervision, the Supervising Building Service Engineer provides leadership in all facets to the Building Service Engineers (BSE), Operating Engineers, Facilities Control Specialists, Refrigeration Mechanics, Facilities Workers, and student workers; giving work direction and training for the staff and student employee staff. In addition, the incumbent performs maintenance and repair work on a wide range of heating, ventilating, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical, refrigeration, air conditioning, water systems and auxiliary equipment. Incumbent will operate, test, adjust, and calibrate, boiler, air conditioning machinery, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and/or microprocessor control instruments. The Supervising Building Service Engineer monitors building systems data, adjust systems accordingly and respond to service requests to adjust airflow, temperature and humidity balances for individual rooms, building areas or buildings. The duties include testing and chemically treating boiler, condenser, and cooling tower water and water from other systems, as well as maintenance, inspection, diagnoses and emergency repairs for systems. Incumbent will regularly use features of building automation systems to diagnose and troubleshoot problems in the HVAC systems and adjust to optimize energy conservation, and may maintain logs of maintenance and repairs, using manual and computerized record-keeping systems, and provide instruction and/or work with semi-skilled or unskilled assistants. Duties also include swimming pool maintenance, and work on bearings, shafts, seals, rings and electrical wiring and installation of central system parts, gauges, valves and pipes. This position requires the application of journey-level skills in one or more of the applicable trades.

Required Education and Experience:

This knowledge and abilities would normally be acquired through three or more years of experience working as a journey-level crafts worker in one or more applicable mechanical or related trades, plus two or more years of experience as a journey-level Building Service Engineer, including one to two years in a lead/supervisory capacity.

Preferences:

Preference may be given to applicants with the following as they may be considered specialized skills: 

  • Bilingual.
  • Experience being self-directed and managing workload in a service oriented environment subject to frequently changing priorities.
  • Recent, relevant experience installing and maintaining commercial HVAC Systems.
  • Recent, relevant experience operating energy management systems related to HVAC equipment.
  • Experience in a supervisory capacity.
  • Ability to estimate cost, time and materials of maintenance, repair and renovation work; maintain records.

Time Base: Full-time

Pay Plan: 12/12

Work Schedule: Mon-Fri 8:00am-5:00pm, shifts may vary. 

CSU Classification Salary Range:  $81,948 - $103,860 per year.

Throughout employment in this position incumbent must maintain a valid California Driver's License as well as continued completion and compliance of the CSU Defensive Driver's Training course.

The successful candidate will be required to pass a post hire respiratory Medical Evaluation.
