Salary: 

Lecturer A/2 Full-Time Equivalent Salary Range: $4,530 – $6,056 per month 
Lecturer B/3 Full-Time Equivalent Salary Range: $5,405 – $11,994 per month   
Lecturer C/4 Full-Time Equivalent Salary Range: $6,190 – $13,172 per month 
Lecturer D/5 Full-Time Equivalent Salary Range: $7,794 – $13,797 per month 

Anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. See the Faculty Salaries At-a-Glance guide for more information.

Position Summary: The Department of Music, Theatre and Dance is seeking a full-time Academic Year Interim Director of Bands starting August, 2024.

Minimum Qualifications: The minimum education requirement for appointment to this position is a master’s degree in music or music education. The successful candidate must have experience in directing/conducting band/wind ensembles, experience teaching classes in the area of music education, and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues. The successful candidate should provide evidence of their commitment to or experience promoting and fostering a learning environment that is supportive of individuals from diverse backgrounds. Candidates should be able to speak effectively about their plans for and previous success in recruitment activities.

Preferred Qualifications: DMA, Ph.D. or ABD in music education, instrumental/band music, or conducting preferred. Ability to teach studio/private instruction desirable. Previous teaching experience at the university level is preferred. Experience teaching classes in the core of the major (theory, aural musicianship, etc., preferred. Experience in secondary music education and innovative, creative, visionary, and enthusiastic artistic leadership desirable. Bilingual candidates will be given preference.

Responsibilities: This lecturer position carries responsibilities in the areas of teaching; directing/conducting the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Concert Band and Pep Band; administering the band program including recruiting and outreach; and providing leadership for the student band staff. The successful candidate must have the ability to teach in other related music areas within music education and the music core (music theory, music history, ear training, music fundamentals, etc.); and mount/organize productions and important events such as Hiestand Memorial Alumni and Friends Concert, Choose Chico Day, Pioneer Day Parade; and work with Director of Choral Activities for the scholarship fund raiser Glorious Sounds of the Season. Teaching assignments are based upon qualifications of the individual and the needs of the department.

The Department: The Department of Music and Theatre offers a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music with options in Music Education and Applied Music, a Bachelor of Arts in Music Industry and Technology with options in Music Industry and Recording Arts; a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre and a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre, as well as minors in Music, Musical Theatre Dance, and Theatre. Department faculty comprising 10 full-time faculty and 20 part-time faculty have a wide range of teaching and research interests, including cross-disciplinary work. In addition to the coursework offered to majors and minors, the department also participates fully in the General Education, Honors, and Liberal Studies programs.
