Applications are being accepted for placement in the “part-time pool” of temporary lecturers in the Department of Recreation, Hospitality and Parks Management at California State University, Chico. All candidates in the part-time pool are given careful consideration for instruction of classes that become available after their application is received. Applications are accepted throughout the academic year and during summer break. The availability of classes and temporary lecturer positions is determined by budget and staffing conditions within the department. Selections for part-time teaching positions are typically made late in the summer when the state budget has been adopted and the Department of Recreation and Parks Management is notified of its budget allocation. In addition, some positions may be available in late fall for the following spring semester.

Minimum Education and Experience

Review the courses in the Recreation, Hospitality and Parks Management section of the University Catalog for specific requirements per course. Review the minimum qualifications for each class in the program curriculum. Minimum qualifications for each course are described in a section that follows the Course Application Checklist.

Additional Requirements and Responsibilities for this position

Review of new applications is completed in August for the fall semester and January for the spring semester. Applications for the part-time pool are accepted throughout the year and are given careful consideration for employment in positions during that academic year that arise after the date of receipt of the application. CSU, Chico offers a number of benefits to its employees (e.g., sick leave, vacation, health insurance). Eligibility for standard CSU benefits is based on an appointment of half-time or more for a period exceeding six months. Employees appointed less than half-time or less than six months are not eligible for standard CSU benefits but do receive prorated sick leave and vacation.

Eligibility for Affordable Care Act (ACA) benefits is based on an appointment of at least three-quarter time, hired to work a minimum of 130 hours per month over the course of the appointment or works an average of 130 hours or more per month during the measurement period. The ACA guidelines provide for health coverage or FlexCash only. ACA does not provide dental or vision plan coverage.

The Department of Recreation, Hospitality and Parks Management is one of the largest of its type in the nation with an average of 10 full-time, 4-6 part-time faculty, and 350-400 undergraduate majors. Our master’s program offers classes for a limited number of qualified graduate students. The program offers undergraduate degree options in Community/Commercial Recreation, Recreation Therapy, Resort and Lodging Management, Parks and Natural Resources Management, and Events Management. The program also offers minors in recreation administration and tourism.
